Dettol Anti-bacterial Laundry Cleanser and UK children’s medical research charity, Sparks, are working together to make a difference to children’s health both at home and abroad. They are asking you to help make a difference to young lives by donating your used baby blankets and ‘keep the memories, not the bacteria’. Dettol Anti-bacterial Laundry Cleanser has pledged to donate £1 for every blanket collected to children’s medical research charity, Sparks. Sparks want to raise much needed funds for UK families with children who are affected by serious illness or disability.

This is a really good cause. Join us and help today.

And if you have already donated a blanket why not get engaged on social media and spread the word? You can follow Dettol Baby Blanket @DettolBlanket, Sparks Charity @SparksCharity and Rachel Stevens @MSRachelStevens and use the hash tag #sharethememories

And if you have not become involved just yet, to give you a bit of an incentive Dettol Baby Blanket is running a small giveaway. Tell them about your favourite baby blanket memory and you could win a bottle of Dettol Antibacterial Laundry Cleanser 🙂

Dettol Antibacterial Laundry Cleanser kills 99.9% of bacteria at 30°C. Keep the memories, not the bacteria! Get involved now!

Send your blanket to Dettol Baby Blanket Donation and help spread the word. The more people get involved, the more kids we can help.

The 4-Box Challenge

The 4-Box Challenge

I was challenged by the Plastic Box Shop to use their 4-box method to de-clutter my home. The idea is very simple:

  •  Indentify the clutter in your home
  •  Follow the chart
  •  Place the item in the correct box

Easy peasy!

The four “magic” boxes are as follow:

Keep – Items which will remain in their current position and are to be kept.

Store – Items which you do not want to throw away but would be able to relocate and possibly store somewhere else.

Donate – Items which you intend to donate to charity.

Bin – Items which you intend to throw away.

I found myself lacking one more box – Sell. As I didn’t have my 5th box I just piled those items on the floor next to the four other boxes.

And the chart which can be used as an aid looks like this:

The 4-Box Challenge Infographic

The chart is actually very helpful and clever. I did follow it for some items, simply because I wasn’t able to make me mind up about the final placement of the item in question.

My boxes arrived and it was time to get to work.

I picked the worst room in our home – my office. Terribly, terribly messy room, full of clutter, spare furniture and was actually really badly lacking in space even for just moving around. I meant to “clean it” last week… last month… I don’t even remember how many times I have promised myself “Ok, tomorrow I will take care of it”, then tomorrow came and went and my office just collected more and more clutter.

So Saturday morning after a large strong coffee I put some lively music on and started on my epic challenge.

The 4-Box Challenge - segragation stage

Slowly piece by piece I was removing things from my office and placing them into the provided boxes… the pile of stuff in the boxes was growing fast.

The 4-Box Challenge - box number five

The pile of stuff for sale wasn’t doing badly either. I decided that if I do not want it and the item has some real value I will sell it. In the end of the day who really needs 3 phones?

The 4-Box Challenge in progress

Once I had actually dug myself through the endless pile of weird stuff I was actually able to remove a spare futon and a chest of drawers from my office. These two pieces didn’t belong in my office, so they had to go in order to get back so much needed space.

The 4-Box Challenge Donate It Trip

I spent most of the day clearing out my office. I found that the Donate It box was the most popular. The next day I packed the car, drove to my local village and donated everything to our local dog charity RATS.

It was a long and tiring day but it was really worth it!

Now I have a spacious office and if someone wants to join me there is actually some space for them to join me by my desk.

This clear-out session was long overdue, so thank you ever so much to the guys at the Plastic Box Shop for selecting me for this challenge, as this gave me the impetus and a very much needed kick to do it and I thus finally did it!

Job jobbed!

Turn a night of fear into a night of hope.

Get involved and help World Vision to support children of Syria.

The Syrian civil war is in its fourth year, and has stolen the childhoods of millions of children. Children have seen unspeakable horrors. They have witnessed the deaths of family members, endured sleepless nights of bombing and fighting, and now live in constant fear and uncertainty.

This Halloween, show the children of Syria that they have not been forgotten.

#ANightOfHope 2014

Have a great Halloween everyone and please share if you care!

Keep the memories, not the bacteria! #sharethememories

Keep the memories, not the bacteria! #sharethememories

Did you know that every minute of every day, approximately 50 babies are born into poverty and will experience conditions lacking basic essentials including hygienically clean blankets?

Baby blankets symbolise a very special time in both a mother and child’s life, holding many precious memories of the early days of life. However, many babies across the world will never get the chance to experience even the simple comfort that a warm, hygienically clean blanket brings.

Laboratory tests commissioned by Dettol – on washed blankets donated by volunteer mums – show that baby ‘blankies’ carry a variety of bacteria even after a 40°C wash with a third of the washed blankets harbouring coliforms – a group of bacteria linked to faeces. Dettol is hoping to raise awareness of this research as well as donate much needed funds to support children’s health.

Dettol and Rachel Stevens (a celebrity mum of two and new ambassador of Dettol Anti-bacterial Laundry Cleanser) are encouraging mums across the UK to “keep the memories, not the bacteria” by donating a blanket via Freepost and sharing their special recollections and photographs of their babies’ blanket on social media. Once collected, the baby blankets will be hygienically washed with Dettol Anti-bacterial Laundry Cleanser before being re-distributed by Dettol to families in need.

Dettol Anti-bacterial Laundry Cleanser has also pledged to donate £1 for every blanket collected to children’s medical research charity, Sparks. Sparks want to raise much needed funds for UK families with children who are affected by serious illness or disability.

Suited & Booted campaign at House of Fraser

Have you ever hear about Suited & Booted? No? I am not surprised. I didn’t hear about it either until a few days ago.Suited and Booted

I would like to tell you who they are, what they do and why.

Suited & Booted is a charity that helps vulnerable, unemployed and low-income men into employment by providing interview clothing and interview advice. They give their clients suitable clothing – perhaps a formal suit or smart casual style – and then guide them through the process of a job interview. This gives them better prospects of success and contributes to their general self-confidence and self-esteem. They help to create a positive first impression when seeking employment. The first 30 seconds of an interview are crucial as employers make up their minds about potential candidates very quickly. Getting appearance and presentation right are vital to be seriously considered for the job.

I think the idea of it is great. It is hard to find any employment these days so the right appearance is vital if one is to stand even a remote chance of getting the job.

Suited & Booted is a new charity and they rely upon the help of volunteers, financial contributions and clothing donations to continue the work that they do and this is where House of Fraser comes in…

As part of a nationwide initiative House of Fraser is offering £100 off a new suit when customers donate their unwanted suits.

From Sunday 17th August till Saturday 20th September 2014 donation banks for unwanted suits, will be located at till points in the menswear department at House of Fraser stores nationwide.

Emily Cowburn, Junior Buyer, at House of Fraser, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be supporting Suited & Booted which provides such a valuable, and in many cases life changing, service to so many people. We would like to encourage as many people as possible to visit their nearest House of Fraser store to donate their old suits. Even if you have an old suit and are not looking to buy a new one, you can provide a fresh start for someone in need, and all it takes is one small donation.”

So if you have any suitable clothing please donate them at a menswear department at House of Fraser or directly into Suited & Booted.

The cause is just and if we all stick together and help one another we can really make a difference.

Stop Hunger Now: Grow the Cause Campaign

Stop Hunger Now

About the Campaign
For Christmas 2013 WORLDFOODS wishes to give something back to those in crisis.
Stop Hunger Now is a charity that aims to end world hunger in our lifetime, a cause which is close to WORLDFOODS Global Business Director May Foong’s heart. WORLDFOODS wishes to help feed the poor, who can’t feed themselves.
WORLDFOODS will be implementing a Christmas Charity campaign in which they look to match the first 5,000 “Likes” they receive on their Facebook page with a donation of $1 to Stop Hunger Now.
WORLDFOODS will use the power of social sharing to raise awareness around this cause.

End World Hunger
About Stop Hunger Now
The Mission of Stop Hunger Now is to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-saving aid to the world’s most vulnerable and by creating a global commitment to mobilizing the resources to make this happen.
They have been fulfilling this commitment since they were founded in 1998.
In 2005 they launched their meal packing programme perfecting an assembly process of small meal packets that contain essential vitamins and minerals and have a 2 year shelf life. These cost only 25 cents. This means that a $1 dollar donation from WORLDFOODS will feed four hungry mouths.
Stop Hunger Now works with international partners to have these meals shipped and distributed.
70% of their meals are provided to transformational development programs such as school feeding, vocational training, early childhood development and orphanages.

How you can help
Join the campaign and spread the word.
