Who / What Am I? 04/04

Good evening everyone,

And yet again the weekend is upon us… how lovely…

I am hoping for some nice weather this weekend so I can do some car booting… not sure if I will go selling, maybe just a browsing trip for me this week… I have not decided as yet… I will see how it goes on Sunday morning…

I miss not having car boot sales during the cold, wet and windy months… I find these few hours every Sunday morning while walking around and looking at some weird and wonderful items people have for sale very relaxing.

Oh, ok before I put myself into a dream like state, let’s reveal the mystery of last week picture.

I am very pleased to announce that a few of you guessed correctly… behold the might Red Panda…

Did you know that red pandas tend to live alone? I had no idea. They spend most of their time in trees, they eat mainly leaves and bamboo, but occasionally they like to snack on fruit, insects, bird eggs or even small lizards. Size wise they are just a bit bigger that a domestic cat…* I actually think that they would make a lovely pet, if I happened to live on a huge range. Wouldn’t you agree?

As for this week’s picture have a look…

Who / What Am I? 14/03

What a lovely day!

I am so happy that the rain has finally decided to go elsewhere.

Amazing isn’t it, all you need is a bit of sunshine and suddenly everything looks so much better 🙂

I really adore this time of the year… spring is so beautiful! Everything is waking up again after the winter and the world gains so many colours! I have already spotted a few flowers in my front garden… they are such a pleasure to look at every time I leave the house.

Happy times!

but back to the point…

Last week I presented to you a mystery orange “thing”. Your guesses were all over but nowhere near the “real thing”. My personal favourite was an old persons’ knee 😉 – yes, I could see it… but no, it was not a knee, nor a carrot or an apricot – it was a birds’ beak.

Have a look…

I have some grand plans for this weekend… unfortunately they all involve spring cleaning… but hey, how bad can it be when the sun is shining and temperatures are starting to rise… I recon it will be an awesome weekend!

I hope you have some great plans too.

And whilst you are sitting there feeling tired this evening after your day of excitement and just relaxing whilst browsing the net don’t forget to have a go at this week picture.

Ready?

Ok, I am exasperated…

I thought very hard about last weeks’ picture choice and it wasn’t supposed to be so easy!

So either you lot are getting much better at this or I am losing my touch…

Yes, most of you were totally right… they were indeed roof tiles or a roof of some sort… have a look…

Tolou ChinaWho What am I cut out to 14 02 2014

This lovely roof belongs to so called tolou (earth building), which is a traditional communal residence in Fujian province of Southern China.

Apparently due to their unorthodox construction and strange appearance from the outside they were once mistaken for missile silos by the Americans during the cold war*.

OK back to the drawing board for this weeks’ picture…

here we go…

Behold a mighty Giant Panda!

Who What am I picture from 10 01Who What am I cut out to 10 01

Yes, last week picture was of a pandas bum 🙂

Did you know that many Chinese philosophers believe that the universe is made from two opposing forces, the Yin and the Yang? The panda is one symbol of this philosophy with its contrasting black-and-white fur. The Chinese believe that the gentle nature of the panda demonstrates how the Yin and Yang bring peace and harmony when they are balanced*.

They are astonishing animals. They do not use facial expression to communicate to each other… instead they stare… It made me wonder if our Bunk has something from the panda genes, as he is using this technique as well from time to time… Mark calls it a staring war… only the alpha male can win!

This week a change of colour! We are going all yellow…

Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend everyone!

Ahh that reminds me, for those of you following our latest crisis, you don’t know this but our roof still isn’t fixed! 2 weeks and counting… but we have a builder / roofer coming in tomorrow so hopefully we will be water tight again. Keeping my fingers crossed as really fed up with running upstairs to check if the ceiling is dripping or not every time in rains. Almost glad I have paid all that money for the peace of mind you can only get through having Emergency Household Insurance….

Again have a wonderful weekend folks.

Take care, everyone!

Who / What Am I? 15-11

Good evening everyone,

I am late again today with my Friday post but I had a really lazy day. It all started out good, I was up very early and doing stuff but then it all went west and instead of spending my day catching up and writing as I had planned, I ended up going back to sleep… hmmm siestas are a wonderful treat if you get the chance.

After my 2nd morning coffee, which I had around 4pm I am up and bouncing, breakfast munched (some pedantic types may call it dinner) and an hour of emergency catch up work and let the lights shine on me as I am finally ready to share the truth about last week’s picture.

Momma’s Bacon was 100% right, last week shot was indeed sugar art. Taken somewhere in China on a regular high street… some guy with a little trolley was making these awesome sugar art lollies; right there in the middle of a crowded street.

Have a look

full shot 8 11who 08 11 answer cut out

If you think this is pretty, have a look at this You Tube clip. It is just over 5 minutes long and it shows different art pieces and how to create them. It looks so simple… we tried to do it at home… it is not simple at all. You need a very steady hand and you need to work fast. We didn’t lift our creation up off the work top in time and it stuck to it, better than superglue, Mark was actually considering getting the hammer and chisel from the garage. We ended up removing it from the kitchen island worktop using a lot of hot water and elbow grease. Slowly the sugar art (yes it is art, Mark claimed it was his interpretation of a Jackson Pollock piece) began to melt and with a clean worktop we tried again, and again, and again and then the saucepan was put in the dishwasher and a different thing was found to do. It’s going to take a lot of practise to get good enough to share the finished work.

Anyway… it is time for this week picture…

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

And if you do decide to try and make some sugar art be very careful and for sure do not stick your finger into the hot sugar as I once did. The pain was something else! Never EVER again!
