Who / What Am I? 18/07

Hello everyone,

It is HOT! It is so hot, that I am melting here. Are you hot too or are you loving the heat wave?

It is funny how the British talk (and moan) about the weather all the time. When I was growing up I had this vision of a Brit in my head – a man with an umbrella talking about the weather. I never understood why you would talk about the weather so much and then… I moved to UK. The weather is so crazy here that it would be bizarre not to talk about it, am I right? Anyway apparently I am picking up a lot of typical English behaviours so therefore it is only normal that weather talk is one of them.

Oh my goodness it’s hot or did I mention that already?

Normally at this point I would be giving you the answer to last weeks’ picture then hit you with something new but not today… today it is too hot to sit down and rummage through the pictures in search of something new and exciting (this is reason number one) but (reason number two) I am also running out of ideas. So today’s Who What Am I will be a bit different.

I will of course tell you about last week shot.

All of you in favour of the elephant were right. Have a look…

Did you know that female elephants are called cows? They start to have calves when they are about 12 years old and they are pregnant for 22 months, wow!

And something else, which is shocking – an adult elephant needs to drink around 210 litres of water a day – A DAY! Shocking isn’t it? A shortage of water in some parts of the world, I think we may have found the culprit.

And one more thing, which is very interesting – elephants are herbivores and can spend up to 16 hours a day collecting leaves, twigs, bamboo and roots.*

And now for the twist…

No new picture today; instead I would like to ask for your help to give me some new ideas. Please tell me about the most weird, bizarre picture you have ever seen. Maybe it was a close up of something ordinary or maybe something totally unique in its nature. I would really appreciate your help.

Stay cool and have fun over the weekend!

  1. Wow amazing elephant facts! I also want to be on that beach right about now. I’m afraid my mind is completely blank regarding weird pictures x

  2. My idea turned out crock – I should have made a trunk call to get it right!
I think you’d be surprised how strange small slices of somthing quite straightforward can look. It doesn’t need to be exotic. An insect sting on an apple, for example.

It’s pretty cool in NE Ohio (76 is pretty much perfect). I’ll read up on some elephant facts (I never can guess your pictures) & share some of the coolness with you. 🙂

  4. It certainly is hot 😉 I think close ups of skins pores are pretty strange.

  5. 210 liters.. that is insane, but given the size of the animal i can see it.. I would say rock formations is something that is never the same..

  6. It’s too hot to think and I can’t believe there’s no end in sight 😦

That is an awful lot of water! Made me think I should be drinking a bit more myself though… no idea on the weird pic front, sorry! Too hot to be inspired tonight…

  8. I live in Florida. I could get too hot here during summer, but it is still manageable. I do not go out much. Tehee!

  9. wow 210 liters, not even my mom can drink so much water :o)

  10. The most bizarre photo I’ve ever taken is one of someone walking a miniature horse on a leash on the pavement outside my house!

  12. I’ll take the hot o weather over cold or freezing weather anytime hehehe. Love the photos you took and ice cream and yogurt would be good to cool you down.

  13. I can’t believe that elephants are pregnant for 22 mos.. I was pregnant for 8 mos – 9.5 months in my pregnancies and I could not imagine being any more than that time..

Most of the bizarre things that I have seen are animals I didn’t know existed, or really artificial species of plants! These are great elephant facts – I had no idea about most of them. 🙂

  15. great fats! I love elephants 🙂

  16. I can’t think of any pictures at the moment – strange looking sea creatures always tickle me though, they’re all so weird and cute looking!

I had so much fun learning more about elephants! I had no idea they were pregnant for 22 months! That’s devotion!

  18. I adore elephants – one of my favourite animals. What about sea creatures……some are fabulously weird to look at

  19. Such beautiful creatures. I never knew they had to drink so much! I’m loving the hot weather, unless I have to walk in it for more than 30 minutes!

  20. I read somewhere that elephants have a very good memory too.
